This blog is simply a chronical of what happens in my life as a husband of 22 years and a father of four kids here in Edmonton, Alberta. I am also a strong believer in Jesus Christ who has become more than just another force or influence in my life, but the driving force. He has become my life! Hope you enjoy my entries and find them enlightening and inspiring.

The Stranger

A few months before I was born, my dad met a stranger who was new to our town.  From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family.  The stranger was quickly accepted and was around to welcome me into the world a few months later.

As I grew up I never questioned his place in our family.  Mom taught me to love the Word of God, and Dad taught me to obey it, but the stranger was our storyteller.  He could weave the most fascinating tales.  Adventures, mysteries and comedies were daily conversations.  He could hold our whole family spellbound for hours each evening.

He was like a friend to the whole family.  He took Dad, Bill and me to our first major league baseball game.  He was always encouraging us to see the movies, and he even made arrangements to introduce us to several movie stars.

The stranger was an incessant talker.  Dad didn't seem to mind, but sometimes Mom would quietly get up while the rest of us were enthralled with one of his stories of faraway places, go to her room, read her Bible and pray.  I wonder now if she ever prayed that the stranger would leave.

You see, my dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions, but this stranger never felt an obligation to honor them.  Profanity, for example, was not allowed in our house-not from us, from our friends, or adults.  Our longtime visitor, however, used occasional four-letter words that burned my ears and made Dad squirm.  To my knowledge the stranger wasnever confronted.

My Dad was a teetotaler who didn't permit alcohol in his home, not even for cooking, but the stranger felt like we needed exposure and enlightened us to other ways of life.  He offered us beer and other alcoholic beverages often.  He made cigarettes look tasty, cigars manly and pipes distinguished.  He talked freely (much too freely) about sex.  His comments were sometimes blatant, sometimes suggestive and generally embarrassing.  I know now that my early concepts of the man/woman relationship were influenced by the stranger.

As I look back, I believe it was because of the grace of God that the stranger did not influence us more.  Time after time he opposed the values of my parents, yet he was seldom rebuked and never asked to leave.

More than thirty years have passed since the stranger moved in with the young family on Morningside Drive.  But if I were to walk into my parents' den today, you would still see him sitting over in a corner, waiting for someone to listen to him talk and watch him draw his pictures.

Thank You Lord!

We are extremely grateful for God’s gracious protection today as I am only suffering from only an extremely sore rib cage after being involved in a pretty bad collision last evening. While driving our Econoline van from work along with Hom, a lady that car pools with me, we T-Boned a young lady driving a Chevy Lumena at 79 Street and 94 Ave. She had run a stop sign and we broad sided her on the passenger door. Her car was literally in the air in front of my face as we did a dance swinging 180 degrees around and then landed on the sidewalk coming to rest on top of a mail box. Amazingly she also walked away from the collision with only a cut on her head. Her car is a mess! Hom was complaining of pain in her knees and left upper leg.

I immediately felt fairly severe pain in my left side, but out of concern for the lady in the car got out to see if she was all right. An on-looker said I should not be moving around, and instructed me to go back and sit down which I did. Police and emergency vehicles arrived moments later and we were attended to. We were also carrying our new little Shi Tsu puppy who crawled out of his kennel which was totally collapsed. We are amazed that he was okay after seeing the condition of his kennel.

Deanna arrived and took us both to the U of A Emergency where by about 11:30pm we had x-rays taken and we received nothing more than some bad bruises. This morning I can hardly breath, much less move around. Brian had to set up my computer for me this morning, which was also in the van. It’s running fine. The van is a complete write off. (See pictures) and we will be in the market for another vehicle. Interestingly enough I had made arrangements yesterday to take another used car for a test drive at 9:30 this morning. We are certainly waiting on the Lord for His wisdom in this. His timing is always perfect!

If we had been a split second earlier entering that intersection, I could have been seriously hurt or killed. As I laid there in the hospital and considered what could have been I was praising God for his protection and grace. Not sure what He is going to do through this, but are assured that His ways are not our ways and that ALL things are in His sovereign control for His glory and our ultimate transformation into His likeness.

Thanks for your prayers on our behalf and we are always open to any wisdom, advice or suggestions any of you may have for us in regard to this happening. Lord what are You doing? What are You saying? Give us eyes to see and ears to hear.

As a brother in Christ, I just pray for your continued guidance in Tim's life, so that he may be steered by the events which you allowed to take place last evening.  For we acknowledge that all things are in your control.  You have a divine purpose in everything, so we pray that you would reveal that purpose to Tim even now.  May he be lead into deaper truths and continue to be that instrument that you can use and will use and are using, as he surrenders all to you.  Be with Tim's wife and family through all this, and may each be drawn into a closer walk with you.
 
Lord, we pray that you will meet Tim's needs with regards to the transportation van needed. 
 
Eph 5:20   always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I pray that out of his glorious riches, he may strenghthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
 
May God bless and be near you today as He leads.

Tim,

We are very happy to hear that you and your passenger (and pet) were spared from greater injury and inconveniences, and hope that you recover quickly from your ordeal. From the pictures, it looks like you had quite a ride over a short distance and in the blink of an eye.

Picking up the pieces and putting your life, and its operating components back in place, is another long road you now must travel. Please let us know what we can do to help shorten the distance and inconvenience.
 
(I hope your insurance covers wayward projectiles from sign-controlled side streets!)

PS.  Is “surviced” a new word for ‘lived through the ordeal’, an out-of-body experience, or simply a typo?  Just kidding!

    So sorry to hear of the accident.  A hearty Amen to Carl's prayer for you and your family.  The enemy is out to kill, steal and destroy God's people.  You must be an important person in God's kingdom.  1.  To be attacked in such a subtle and dangerous way.  2.  To miraculously survive such a terrible accident.  God is not calling you home any time soon.
    Be sure to know that the battle rages against the sons of God who are bringing forth Christ's Kingdom.  This is the third terrible report I have received this week, and you came out of it the best. My dear friend Peter Moyo from Zimbabwe was killed in an auto accident in Africa on May 24th.  He was carrying lots of money to a neighboring country to get food for his people.  His country is an anti-christ land and is starving the people in the land.  That's where those farmers were expelled years ago and still can't go back to their farms.
    The other one was three teen-agers in a church in Terrace who had abortions, against the better advice of their elders. The enemies time is very short and he is raging right now.  These are the times when we must be close to the Lord all the time.  He is our only safety and hope.  Thank the Lord for your survival, and I trust that the settlement works out well for you.

HI Tim,
I was shocked. I didn't get to see the pictures...which might be a good thing since your description sounded like it was a serious collision. The attachment I got was a .dat file.  I am so thankful that you are okay.

I have just come home from a wonderful retreat. What I got from it may apply to you.  I can sum it up in 1 Thess 5:18......"give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

Being thankful was the topic for me.  I am thankful for my friends. I am thankful for your life and you being my good friend and brother. I am so thankful that we worked together and stayed friends all these years.  I think it will be our 10th anniversary in 2006.  I am thankful that I got to meet and know your family...it gave me so much hope to have one myself....something I thought I was not worthy of.  I am thankful for the Bible discussions we had during the lunch hours at Airworks.  I am thankful for Deanna...for showing me a loving good mother/wife through her actions...the times she made me feel so welcome in your home.  I am thankful that you are alive and emailed me to tell me the news.

i am so sad tears begin to rolled from my eyes especially when i saw the accident pictures but I remenber something the bible said that everything work together for good it also says in everything we should give Him thanks. Meanwhile, as i was writing u i became to cry and cry others begin to look at me in the cafe as soon as they ask me. I told them that the Lord was speaking to me about what He's about to do in my life and they all begin to laugh at me.  one thing dad as was writing u the Lord begin to tell me not to cry he said do u see how bad that accident was? I God preserve ur parents.  Dad, God have something in store for our family as i saw chino kit oh God be glory i bless ur name i love u Lord today it begin to rain here i even decided not to attend service today because it rain until we exceeded regular service time but as soon as the rain ceases today i went straight to church not knowing that the Lord was simply telling me to go and give Him praise for His marvelous job His miraculous job He had perform. it is God who takes all the pains away father it is me standing in the need of prayers oh Jehovah God don't allow my mom and dad to go through pains let them be set free in the mighty name of Jesus u have said that anything we ask in ur name we shall receive it all we should do is to believe on ur name u have said if we have faith even small as a mustard seed we can say to the mountain be thou remove father in the mighty name of Jesus i command pains out of my parents u have given us domain over powers and principalities right now as iam writng take thier pains away let ur name be glorify i love u Lord u know all things u are omnipotent God omnipresent God God of Isaac, Abraham Moses and Jacob their God that send down fire and consume all the wet wood u are able and more than able i give u all the glory who ever will be a help to my dad for the past time with some of his jobs may u blessed them. may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ the love of God be with u all in Jesus mighty name may His blood cover u all the blood that speaketh good things then that of Abel.
